Reasons to take the test:
The DNA test for caffeine metabolism evaluates how quickly an individual metabolizes caffeine and costs only £49. If 2 tests are purchased together discount is £10
Here’s why you should consider taking this test:
- Understand your response to caffeine: If you are a slow metabolizer, you may experience symptoms such as nausea, tachycardia, insomnia, or hypertension after consuming caffeine.
- Manage your consumption: Knowing whether you are a fast or slow metabolizer allows you to regulate your caffeine intake more consciously.
- Reduce the risk of hypertension: Slow metabolizers should limit caffeine intake to avoid increased blood pressure, while fast metabolizers can benefit from moderate consumption.
The test determines whether a person is a fast or slow caffeine metabolizer.
People who metabolize caffeine slowly should reduce or avoid its intake, as they are more prone to developing hypertension. On the other hand, fast metabolizers can consume coffee without issues and are even better protected from this risk with regular consumption. For slow metabolizers, there is a positive and direct correlation between caffeine intake and increased blood pressure, while for fast metabolizers, the relationship is reversed: consuming 4 or more cups of coffee a day can actually reduce the risk of hypertension.
The genetic analysis focuses on the CYP1A2 gene.
This gene encodes the CYP1A2 cytochrome P450 protein, a liver enzyme primarily involved in caffeine metabolism. Caffeine mainly affects the central nervous system by blocking adenosine, a neurotransmitter responsible for the feeling of tiredness when we are not well-rested.
An unfavorable variant of the gene regulating the enzyme can lead to slow caffeine metabolism, prolonging its effects and increasing the risk of developing hypertension.
The sensitivity indication is based on scientific studies that associate the detected genetic variants with a higher likelihood of developing hypertension compared to the general population. This predisposition is a probabilistic factor and does not take into account the individual’s lifestyle, focusing solely on their genetic makeup. As a result, it is not a diagnosis and does not imply a direct cause-effect relationship.
